PLASTIC ANIMALS formed in Edinburgh in 2006 and, in between long periods of hibernation, began creating three-minute punk messes. 2011 has seen something of an awakening, on course to include more gigs and exposure than the previous 4 years combined. Inspired by bands ranging from The Velvet Underground to Deerhunter, they have embraced a fuller, more ambient sound without abandoning their noisy alt-rock roots entirely.
The band released a new 5-song EP called A Dark Spring on 1st July 2011. You can hear a preview on the band’s Soundcloud. It is also available to buy from the band’s bandcamp page. Songs were recorded, mixed and mastered at Glasgow’s Green Door Studio by Sam Smith. Recording began on the day of Will and Kate’s Royal Wedding, something which bears no intentional relation to the EPs main themes of loss and separation.
